What Is An Inversion Table?
An inversion table is basically a pivoting platform that enables you to hang upside down to counter-act the effects of gravity and experience the benefits of inversion therapy. You can read all about inversion therapy here. Read on to learn how inversion tables work, their benefits and how to choose the best inversion table for you. And then have a look at some inversion tables on the market right now.
How Does An Inversion Table Work?
You stand against the platform and strap your feet to it. Then using the built-in handles, or motor, you gradually lean back to pivot the platform into a horizontal position.
You then continue pivoting to which ever inverted angle you find comfortable. In fact, the inversion table is capable of tilting into a completely inverted vertical position if you so wish, where you can hang upside down from your ankles.

What Are The Benefits Of An Inversion Table?
Inversion tables allow you to experience the anti-gravity effects of inversion therapy to help you relieve back pain. There are many benefits to using an inversion table.
Inversion tables are safer than other methods for hanging upside down, ie on playground equipment etc. They offer solid construction, handles or motors, foot straps and padding to ensure you are not only safe, but comfortable too.
You can slowly invert yourself a few degrees at a time to allow your self to become comfortable with inversion.
They offer padding to lay on, head rests, easy-grip handles or motors. Some even offer massage functionality.
You can use them in the comfort and privacy of your home, at a time that suits you. Most fold up and can be packed away when not in use.
How To Buy The Best Inversion Table.
Before you rush out and buy an inversion table you need to take a few things into consideration first. Obviously you want to buy the best inversion table you can afford. But there are many different types and manufacturers of tables out there, where do you begin?
I’ve put together an Inversion Table Buying Guide below to give you an idea of the things you should consider.
Of course, reading inversion table reviews is also a great way to help you choose the right one. There are plenty available on the internet, so do a bit of research and see what everyone else is saying about them.
To ensure your safety, make sure that the inversion table is strong and stable. It should have a sturdy frame/stand made from thick strong heavy gauge components to prevent it from collapsing. When open, the frame should have a fairly large footprint to prevent it from tipping over. This is especially important if you plan to exercise while inverted.
Height and Weight Limits
Make sure it has a height and/or weight limit that is suitable for you. If you do not meet these requirements, you may not be able to use it safely. Some tables have adjustable platforms to cater for people of different heights.
Look for features that offer comfort. If it is uncomfortable to use your table, you wont enjoy using it, if at all.
Foot straps, or clamps should be padded and secure. Make sure they are adjustable as well, as not everyone has the same size feet. Some people may prefer a knee bar. This allows you to hang from your knees rather than your ankles, so choose whichever is preferable to you.
The platform should also be padded to provide further comfort. Some models have face pads that are designed to allow you to lay face down or face up. Some also allow the padding to be removed allowing you room to perform exercises whilst inverted.
You may even find that some models have a pillow for you to rest your head on while some even offer vibrating padding to provide a massage effect.
Easy To Use
Choose a table that has comfortable handles that allow you to invert yourself slowly in increments. Look for a self locking system that helps control your inversion. Some more advanced tables may even have a motor to control the inversion process.
You may prefer a machine that is portable if you have limited space. These are collapsible so you can pack them away and store them or transport them to an appropriate location when you wish to use them.
Hopefully you now have a better understanding of what inversion tables are and why you should use one. I also hope you know how to choose the best inversion table for you and are more confident about making a purchase decision.
